The 2008 Election and US Oil

US Oil

The election of 2008 is an important one, and with the state of our country’s troubled economy everyone needs to make an educated choice. Don’t trust the television ads: they are ALL biased.

That being said, most Internet articles will be biased, and this one is a little too. I will do my best to talk about the candidates, their plans for the energy crisis, and their views on the future of US oil dependence.

As we all know, our country is in a recession. With the recent drop in the stock market and the rising price of oil, the future is not looking too bright. As much as we may deny it, we all know the cause of our current economic state is partially due to oil.

High prices set by OPEC drive up the prices of transportation, affecting all industries’ shipping capabilities. This all passes through to the consumer; we get hit with the deficit.

Oil is a very important factor in this election, as you can see.

Now on to the candidates.

John McCain

On one end, we have McCain. He plans to cut prices by drilling in on our own turf, eliminating need for planes and boats, and their high shipping costs.

If we go with McCain’s plan, a few things will happen. We will see a price drop in oil in a few years, and it will last a good while.

Barack Obama

On the other side is Obama. He plans to reduce prices by reducing our use of oil. He wants to build more environment friendly energy sources to stop the use of oil. We will not need as much oil, and thus, prices will go down. It is simple supply and demand.

If we go with Obama’s plan, we will have a cleaner source of energy, but not much relief at the pumps. If anything we will have a few years of cheaper oil, but there is no long term plan. It is all short term.

Conclusion

In my opinion, McCain’s plan is better. This is mostly because I personally am not suffering too badly from the state of the economic recession. However, there are many people who will disagree with me because they are having a harder time financially right now.

Please remember that is only an opinion.

People who are not struggling are better off with Obama’s plan. It really all depends on your current financial status.

Just Get Out and Vote

Both plans are good, and both will work to an extent, but I’m not here to convince you to vote for one or the other: I am here to educate and inform you. You choose, you go out and vote, and be confident in your selection.
